Hey Jetsetters! Travel season is about to start again and it is winter! This means your skin is going to take a double whammy from the travel and the dry weather. Now more than ever you need to take care of your skin and I am sharing you my beauty routine when I travel especially on long haul international flights. This In-Flight Skincare routine will help you have glowing skin when you land. YOUR SKIN & FLIGHTS

Have you ever been on a plane and after you got off your makeup looked off and your skin felt different? I have and I hated how cakey and drive my skin felt. For the longest time, I never understand why my skin was like that after I had exfoliated and moisturize before the flight.

What I discovered is there is a direct connection between the actual flight itself and your skin. Every passenger on the plane takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. So to be sure everyone  is breathing the right amount of oxygen they need, fresh air is pumped into the cabin. You combine this with the high altitude and cold air and VIOLA! You have the perfect recipe for dry air to make your skin not look its best.

Below are a few tips to think about on your next flight and beauty essentials to pack in your carryon bag. I have links to each product and I discuss fully how on do this in my video below.

STAY HYDRATED

Just like on land, staying hydrated in the air is crucial. Drink lots of water or green tea when in the air especially on international flights. The free wines and liquor is tempting and you can have them but don’t forget to flush it before you hit the sack with water.

A good tip is to pack your own empty water bottle and fill it up before getting on the plane so that way you have it and not having to press the call button for a flight attendant to give you a “baby” bottle of water. You know they can be slow in responding to calls at night too.

KEEP YOUR SKIN MOISTURIZED

As I mentioned, just because I got a nice facial prior to the flight does not mean my skin will stay moisturized during and after the flight. Keeping moisturized mid-flight is just as important as putting on SPF when outdoors. Again the dry air and altitude makes your skin really dry.

On shorter flights where I am not going to take off my makeup and reapply, I use facial sprays with rosewater are my preferred or my Evian spray. These sprays are great to keep your skin moisturized but without messing up your makeup that you work so hard in putting on. Below are my 3 preferred sprays that I use interchangeably. The Heritage Rose Petal Rosewater spray I love because you can also use it on your hair and very moisturizing.

It is not just your skin you need to keep moisturized but don’t forget your lips as well. Your lips can get more drier than the skin on the rest of your body. I love Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy to keep my lips moisturized. There whole lip line is amazing and you can find it at Sephora

If you are on a longer flight such as an international then before sleeping you do want to wash off your make up and be sure you moisturize. A good rule of thumb is add a facial moisturizer every 3 hours . I love Fresh line for facial moisturizers esepecially their Rose line. I use 3 products from their Rose and all help keep my skin supple.

The Rose Deep Hydration moisturizer keeps my skin soo smooth and soft. I discovered this moisturizer when I got a mini facial at a Fresh store. Fresh also has a great hydrating overnight sleeping mask that is great for moisturizing too but my favorite is Rose Face Mask that is infused with real rose petals. This mask hydrates and tones and leaves my skin so soft and moisturized.

On this particular trip, I was out of it and used Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Moisturizer and it is one of my new favorite ones to use to moisturize my skin. It has hyaluronic acid which is not a type of acid that strips or exfoliates your skin like a peel, but acrually adds moisture.

IN-FLIGHT SPA TREATMENT

  1. Have separate beauty kit (ziplock size) in your carry-on with all your beauty products
  2. Remove your makeup using Neutrogena’s facial wipes
  3. Pack a wash cloth and ask for the flight attendant half a cup of warm/hot water. They will more than likely give you hot water.
  4. Apply mild cleanser such as my favorite from Fresh and wipe it off using the warm wash cloth
  5. Apply a moisturizing mask to face and let it sit for at least 10min. Or use an overnight mask and leave on until the morning
  6. Apply a moisturizer to face is not using an overnight mask. Rub in completely and the leave a light layer on top of skin without rubbing it completely.
  7. Don’t forget your eyes and lips. These are areas of skin that get dry faster than other parts po ypur face
  8. Next morning wash face of cream again
  9. Use an brightening or engergizing sheet mask or Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask
  10. Spray face with a rosewater facial spray and proceed with your makeup routine
