“Stress Doesn’t Really Go With My Outfit!”

It’s a new year and it’s January so you know what that means… New Year’s resolution, right?! True, but it also means going through “Post Vacation/Holiday Stress”! Shopping, crowds, parties, food, spending money, holiday disappointments and traveling leaves January one of the most stressful months of the year beating the month of December! Though spending time with family and attending parties can be fun, but at the same time, it can cause many to be stressed. This even happens after returning from vacation which always happens to me. You may be thinking why would going on vacation cause stress??? If you are like me when you go on vacation, you have the stress of returning back to work or school and getting caught up and back in the groove of things. Sometimes I feel like going on vacation defeats the purpose because it takes forever just to get caught back up.

Stress is the physical and emotional reaction of the person in demanding situations, obligations and changes

MUSIC TO DESTRESS

However, my go to source to reduce stress has always been music! Music has always been my drug and it is also a great stress reliever. Sure chocolate and a bottle of wine can do the trick but if you ate chocolate and a bottle of wine every day for most of the month, then I am sure you will adding a new stress in the mix – dieting! Being a former dancer and choreographer, I love listening to music often because it helps me get out of my element just for a little bit. I tend to listen to music while I am at work as well. Research shows there are many benefits of listening to music.

  • Increases happiness and reduces depression
  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces depression
  • Enhances running and exercise performance
  • Reduces anxiety

You may have heard that listening to classical music or instrumental music are some of the best types of music to listen too. I am not denying that this research is not true. But who truly wants to only be limited classical or instrumental music. The key element that helps with relaxation is the tempo and pace. At the same time, the style of the music can affect the mood and can still give a positive effect whether it is has a faster tempo or not. For an example, one of my favorite artist to relax too is Jamiroquai whose style is Funk/Jazz/R&B. So the tempo of his songs are not always a slow tempo, but it still has a direct positive effect on my mood. Pretty much there are could different styles of music besides classical music that could help you reduce stress too.

MY FAVORITE MUSIC TO DESTRESS

Sometimes I would leave my desk at work and walk around the building a few times while having one of my favorite songs on replay. Everyone’s musical taste are different, but I always love sharing songs that I have discovered and like. My preference are usually not songs you hear on main stream radio. A lot of my favorite songs and artists are not played on US radio. I love Romanian artists, Italian, British and other world music artists. Below are my top 10 songs I love to listen to when I just want to relax and distress:

The best way I love listen to music is wearing my headphones. I feel that wearing headphones helps me to zone out a bit more and it helps me relax better than turning on a radio next to me. Some hospitals actually have patients listen to music before and after surgery to reduce stress and anxiety. I have had MRIs done and they always give patients headphones to listen to music to help calm their nerves too. My favorite new SymphoniQ Bluetooth headphones are from Sound Whiz.  Its an Australian brand which wireless headphones. I love that I could be dancing or on the treadmill and I have no strings attached. I am listening to music playing on my cellphone that is in one room and I could be in a completely separate room jamming out. A strong signal can reach up to 33 feet and it can play 20 hours of music when it is fully charged. SoundWhiz is currently running a sale on Amazon so go check it out and get you a pair!

These headphones are currently discontinued. I recommend this one or this one as alternates

I agree with you. Music is the perfect way to unwind, and wireless headphones certainly make this easy. I wear my headphones when I workout and while I’m cleaning the house. Music always makes the time go by so much faster. Great post and lovely pictures!
