GIRL BOSS! We have seen the hashtag and we heard of the popular #GIRLBOSS book by Sophia Amoruso! But what is a girl boss!? I am excited to talk about this as well as a blogger meetup I recently did in Dallas with some awesome girlbosses! These wonderful ladies and I are “sisters” of Style Collective! August 20th was National Style Collective Meetup! Many Style Collective Sisters across the USA did a meetup in their local city meet their sisters for the first time! This was first meetup they had put together and I look forward to others in the future. For our meetup, we met at this ultra chic outdoor bar called The Happiest Hour and the meetup turned out so great and encouraging! The photographer that capture our meetup moments was Jason with J & J Studio!
Style Collective is an online community of female #girlbosses who connect, encourage and grow together in this awesome sisterhood! Being a new blogger, it can be bit overwhelming and intimidating to begin the blogging journey. If you do not have any blogger friends to consult and get advice, it makes it even more harder and intimidating. I discovered Style Collective in April 2016. I joined that month and I feel it was the best decision I could have made since I knew I seriously wanted to pursue blogging and not just have a fashion Instagram account. I remember I was so stressed and so scared to go live on my website because I thought that it had to be perfect at the launch. After relating my concerns to some of the Style Collective Sisters, they came back with words that were so supportive and encouraging. They helped me to see that I should not be scared and my site didn’t have to be perfect, but many of them changed and adjusted their site so many times until they got it how they would like it. After reading all their response, I immediately went live!
This very thing it what I feel makes a true girlboss! In a world where everyone is taught to have a “me first attitude” and to be the best and be better than the person next to you, it is so refreshing to have a community of women that is willing to help, encourage and sincerely wants you to succeed because we all have the same goal – to be successful bloggers! There are some bloggers that don’t want to share their “secrets” per say or don’t want to give advice or tips because they are afraid of you becoming more successful than they are. I personally do not support this idea and this is definitely not the idea or mentality of Style Collective. When you join Style Collective, you will receive so much information and tips on how to be a successful blogger and girlboss. It is like having your own cheerleading squad and coach rooting for you and helping you along the way. I have learned so much from blogging from being a member of this community and from talking with bloggers of Style Collective no matter if they are just starting out or have over 50,000 followers.
I feel that being a girlboss means you know what you are worth and you strive to achieve your goals no matter what. A girlboss recognizes that their will be times of failure, but does not give up but keeps trying and trying again. A girlboss also strives to empower other women- striving to make other women just as strong and confident. Doing this requires and quality that I feel is most important if you want to be a blogger. This quality is humility. I think being humble is very important when it comes to blogging. Yes, it is true that blogging has a lot to do with numbers and stats. But numbers is not everything. Just because one may have 40,000 followers does not make them more important or successful than someone with only 4,000 followers. With me personally, back in April I had less than 1,500 followers on instagram and now I am almost at 5,000. If next week I am at 50,000 I still want to remain humble and stay true to myself.
As a blogger, different companies have reached out to me – some are new, up and coming brands and some are very well established in their industry. I feel it is important to give the same amount of respect and professionalism to any brand or any blogger no matter how many followers they may have. All it takes is the 1 post and that blogger or brand could be the next big thing. I think it is very important to not burn any bridges by not being professional – not responding to emails because you feel that they are not worthy of your response with their little ol 2,000 followers . As I mentioned, it may be 2,000 followers today, but come next week it could be 200,000 and then you wish you would have responded to that email.
As mentioned earlier, our meetup was at The Happiest Hour! New outdoor patio bar in Dallas! It had been raining most of the weekend and so we were very happy to see have pretty good weather and some sunshine for our meetup! We had cocktails and food which was great! We also got to know each other a little bit better. We found out how each one got started in blogging, shared experiences and tips. I remember one comment that Liz made was that it was so nice to use certain terminology like “I got a collab” and just being able to speak about blogging with people who understand. Blogging may appear to be glamorous but it is a lot of work!
So now let me introduce to you to some of Style Collective’s Dallas Sisters!
Meet the GIRL BOSSES
Meet Stephanie with Signing Steph! This was my first time meeting her! She is super sweet and laid back and loved her boho vibes! Check out her blog to see where she got her cute cape top and accessories! Don’t you just love her top!?
Meet Jennifer with Sassy Teacher Chic! Jennifer is actually a friend of mine and knew each other long before we both decided to blog! I love she has a classy, chic style that is very different from some teacher these days who sometimes dress in there ABC apple tops and sweaters. Check her her blog for details on this stylish look she wore!
Meet Liz with Witty n Pretty! This was also the first time I met Liz and so sweet as well! I love her preppy chic style and her necklace I adored! You have to check out her blog to see where she got it! Her whole outfit was rockin!
As for my outfit, I got it mainly from Agaci! I love Agaci for their style and price! Their pieces are affordable! When I went shopping a couple of weeks ago, the blue top captured my eye! As you may notice from my pictures, I do love blues and purples! This top you can also order online and it is called Chain Essence Halter and only cost $16.90. I love the gold chain with the this shade of blue. As for my bottoms, I first saw them on the mannequin and loved it because it is so different! They are a pair of shorts with a cape in the back and sides. You can also purchase this online for only $26.90! This is called the Gigi Maxi Skirt which surprised me that they considered it more of skirt than shorts. I guess you could just call it a skort! These actually comes in two colors – mustard yellow and mauve. I love combing different colors together that may not seem very matchy. Some people may combine one old color with a neutral but i like to combine many bold colors all together. As far as my accesories goes: earrings from Adorn Addict, watch/bracelet set from Versona and Versace bag from Macy’s and only $40!
So if you are a blogger or thinking about blogging, strive to be the ultimate girl boss and empower another woman! Also join Style Collective as well and be a part of this wonderful sisterhood!
Stay fresh & FIERCELY you!
