Colorful Makeup Trend – 3 Ways to Add a Pop of Color
It is no secret I LOVE color! I love adding a pop of color in my outfits, shoes, accessories and of course makeup. I was never always like this. I was team neutral for a very long time until I began to play around with different colors such as blues and fell in love. Some may be a little nervous when it comes to adding color in their makeup. You may feel that you are too fair skinned or dark skinned but there is always a shade that looks great for every skin color. I have been getting a lot of questions about the brands and products I use to create my makeup looks. So I am discussing 3 ways to wear colorful makeup so you can add a pop of color too! All of the products I use are linked in this post. Shop my outfits featured in this post below.
POP OF COLOR: LIPSTICK
One of the easiest ways to add a pop of color to your makeup look are with lipsticks. Now in days, you can find lipstick colors of every shade in the rainbow. One of the first colors to play with is red. Everyone woman needs to have a shade of red lipstick. Red lipstick can look different on each person depending on your complexion and the pigment of your lips. I have tried sooo many different shades of red lip but some came off orange vs ruby red.
The shade of red I fell in love with was Kylie Cosmetics Mary Jo K. I have bought this shade 2 times over because I love it so much. It is a textbook red lipstick on my lips. MAC’s Ruby Woo is good runner up as well. I also love Mangrove, a tropical red color from MAC which I am wearing in photos 1 & 5 below. My other favorite Kylie lipsticks is June Bug which is a purplish/pink (photo 4 below). It is a pretty shade and surprisingly looks good with a lot of my different outfits. My other favorite from Kylie is Party Girl which is a bright pink. With this color, a little goes a long way. You don’t want to apply this color on heavy or else it will look very neon. I just do a few dabs and slowly add until it get it how I like it.
Fenty Beauty by Rhianna is also my other favorite brand for fun lip colors. I love her Mattemoiselle P;ush Matte lip collection. This line includes a variety of lip colors that has a long stay wear and has an intense color. A little goes along way with this lipstick as well so a tube lasts a long time. My favorite hot pink lipstick is from this line called Candy Venom! It is the perfect barbie pink lipstick a looks great on women of color. The other collections of lipstick that I like to wear is Make Up For Ever which they carry pretty coral/orange color (see photo 2 below) and NYX Powder Puff Lippie collection which you can see on the first photo of the next section.
POP OF COLOR: PASTEL COLORS
If you are afraid to try something more bold in your eye color, adding some pastel colors is way to add color without it being dramatic. Adding some light yellows, lavender, pinks and oranges can give you a colorful look without the “shock factor”. With all my makeup looks, I love to add a pair of lashes. One of my new brand of lashes that I have absolutely love is Brazilian Queen lashes. These are super dramatic lashes that you can find in photos 1 below called Beauty Queen D100. My other new favorite lashes are Pinky Goat lashes in Amani (see photo 2 below). I discovered them at the Dallas Indie Beauty Expo.
One color palette that I have been wearing on repeat is from Nomad Cosmetics. I discovered them while also attending the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas. The Marrakesh Medina Palette is the eyeshadow palette that I have been using. It includes a nice variety of neutral colors along with some pops of colors. Their eyeshadow is cruelty & vegan free and it is infused with Argan Oil. The Souks color is a nice, soft pink shade that I wore in my opening photo as well as photo 2 below.
For a more of a dramatic look, one of my favorite palettes is the Cover Girls full Spectrum collection (photo 3 below). This brand new collection was designed with women of color in mind. These colors are so rich and pops and you see the true shade even on darker skin tones. A little goes along way. The blues and oranges and yellows are so rich and deep.
My favorite lavender set is actually from Kiko Milano. One of my favorite makeup brands from Italy. They are now have stores here in the US with stores in NY and Miami. Their Bright Duo Baked Eyeshadow line has a variety of colors that you can wear wet or dry. In photos 1,4 & 5 below, I am wearing the lavender set dry. Very light a pretty and even added it underneath my eyes as an eyeliner.
POP OF COLOR: EYELINER
The 3rd way to add a pop of color is buy wearing color eyeliner! Black eyeliner is not the only color you can buy or wear. Color eyeliner has grown in popularity over the past few years. I began to try out color eyeliner just on the bottom eyelid which can really bring out the look.
I love Make Up For Ever’s Aqua XL Eye Pencils. They are waterproof and come in a variety of colors. The color I am wearing below is the Aqua XL I-24 – iridescent blue with green sparkles! Cover Girls Full Spectrum line also has a variety of different color eyeliners to try as well. I have not tried to wear eyeliner on my top eyelid quite yet because I just love wearing black eyeliner but I have been playing with looks and will give it a try. If you do not have color eyeliner pencils, you can still create the same look by using eyeshadow and wetting the brush to give a bold line. Details on my earrings which are under $5 you can find here.
I hope this post gave you a bit more inspiration on how to incorporate color in your makeup! Also for my women of color, don’t be afraid of wearing color. It looks great on our darker skin. I get the best compliments when I wear bold colors in my makeup!
