THE COLOSSEUM VIEWS & LOCATION

I discovered Aroma Restaurant on Instagram! I was mesmerized by the view and knew we had to eat here for our anniversary while visiting Rome. It has the perfect view of the Roman Colosseum.  You can never get tired of the view. We were able to get a reservation for lunch the last day of our visit in Rome.

You definitely should make reservations months in advance. At the end of April, they were already completely booked through mid June. However, we called and they were able to accommodate us. The weather was quite warm and humid that day. So they had the retractable roof on and the glass windows up to help control thw temperatire. Towards the end of our stay and pulled the roof back and glass. It was real nice!

To get the restaurant by metro, just take the Colosseum stop. Once you come out of the station, head to the left and you will see a building which is Hotel Palazzo and the will take you to terrace. The inside décor is definitely elegant and beautiful. When you get off from the elevator the main restaurant is to the left and they have bistro café on the right which has a beautiful garden like view as well. Both giving an very intimate experience seeing that it only holds 28 seats.

THE APPETIZERS

The dining experience at the Michelin star Aroma Restaurant was incredible! Nothing that we have ever experienced before! We ate here for lunch but do not expect a quick hour lunch type of deal. It’s an experience – an experience for you to enjoy the foods and savor each bite. Our lunch lasted about 3 hours but it was perfect.  Chef Di Lorio is the head chef and created such amazing dishes. One thing about this restaurant is that the menu changes depending on the season and what is available.

To start off we had prosecco with their bread basket and olive oil. The olive oil was so good! First we had an assortment for fish served on tasting spoons. Then came swordfish on cream of carrot (Sandwich di pesce spada su crema di carota) This was so good! I think it was my first time eating swordfish in a really long time. I loved the presentation too!

Next we had a yummy octopus appetizer (Carpaccio di polpo con scorza nera e ‘nduja calabrese) which octopus is my new favorite seafood ever since I had it in the Amalfi Coast. This was prepared with a particular sausage from my husband’s region of Italy called Calabria. This sausage is called nduja.

Lastly we had seared scallops on a cornmeal cream. This was sooo good! I absolutely love scalloped and never ate it prepared like this before and it was delicious!

THE MAIN COURSES

For the main courses, we were in for a treat! We had nice fish paccheri pasta! It  was with monkfish with dried tomatoes cooked also with candied lemon and Salicornia plant (Paccheri con coda di rospo, pomodori secchi, salicornia e limone candito)! It was very good!

The second pasta was nice rigatoni pasta with a horseradish cream and roman zucchini (Rigatoni di Kamut con crema di cicerchia e rafano, datterini e zucchine romanesche)! This was very tasteful as well! With fine dining, the portions are small but the taste is incredible and unforgettable!

THE DESSERTS

No meal is complete with dessert and the presentation delivery of the desserts was really good! We technically had 4 different desserts. First was a beautiful strawberry composition that consisted of fresh strawberries, strawberry cake and a yogurt (Composizione di fragole con salsa di yogurt) .

We also had ricotta and coffee as another desserts which is a like a creamy sweet mouse like dessert (Ricotta e caffè)!  Also the other dessert I was not quite sure what it was but it came with a sweet basil dressing! Then to finish it off a few yummy macaroons and candy desserts!

THE BISTRO CAFE DINING

If the you want something light white a garden view, then you can have lunch at the Bistro Café. This is located to right as you get off the elevators.

There is no Colossuem view but the green garden which is very beautiful and relaxing. This is also where the hotel guests have breakfast as well.
